The Piaroa of Venezuela
The Piaroa of Venezuela, numbering about 13,500 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are a middle Orinoco Basin people who call themselves Huottuja, first encountered by missionaries around 1780, whose regional Ature, Piaroa, and Quaqua dialects were mistaken by 18th-century ethnologists for three separate tribes rather than one people.
They are an indigenous people in the South American Indigenous people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples. Their primary religion is Animism, and they primarily speak Piaroa.
