They are a South Asian diaspora people of Hindi-Hindustani heritage, descended primarily from indentured laborers from Uttar Pradesh and Bihar in India who developed a distinct Indo-Guyanese identity and linguistic tradition in Guyana.
They are a diaspora people in the Hindi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism, and they primarily speak Caribbean Hindustani.
