The Aukan of French Guiana
The Aukan of French Guiana, numbering about 24,000 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are a Ndyuka Maroon people descended from enslaved Africans who fled Suriname's plantations in the early eighteenth century, winning an 1760 treaty of semi-independence, with roughly a quarter now settled along French Guiana's Maroni River basin.
They are an indigenous people in the Afro-American people cluster of the North American Peoples. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion, and they primarily speak Eastern Maroon Creole.
