The Central Mam of Guatemala
The Central Mam of Guatemala, numbering about 198,000 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are a Mam Maya people who settled the Quetzaltenango basin around 200 BC, naming their homeland Q'ulaja or gorge, before the K'iche' Kingdom conquered and renamed the land, which Pedro de Alvarado renamed Quetzaltenango after the 1524 Spanish conquest.
They are an indigenous people in the Maya people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Catholicism, and they primarily speak Mam.
