They are a vegetarian Marwari-speaking trading community from Rajasthan now settled in Karnataka, whose name derives from javahir, meaning jewelry. Jewelry dealing is their traditional occupation, though many are now in business.
They are an indigenous people in the Rajasthani people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism, and they primarily speak Marwari (India).
