The Baisya of India
The Baisya of India, numbering about 1,600 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a Hindu trading community of West Bengal and Assam whose name likely derives from the Vaisya varna of traders. They are also known as Suri and are today engaged in business, cultivation, and service, with marriages regulated by Brahmanical gotras.
They are an indigenous people in the Bengali people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism, and they primarily speak Hindi.
