The Turun of India

The Turun of India, numbering about 2,400 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a Tai-speaking Buddhist community of Jorhat district, Assam, also called Shyam, who migrated from upper Burma around 1825. Agriculture remains their mainstay, supplemented by government or private employment.

They are an indigenous people in the South Asian Buddhist people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Theravada Buddhism, and they primarily speak Assamese.
