The Mahisyadas of India
The Mahisyadas of India, numbering about 193,000 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a Scheduled Caste of Tripura whose name recalls matsya (fish), their original trade before adopting the plow and renaming themselves Haluadas. Agriculture is now their main occupation, supplemented by poultry-rearing.
They are an indigenous people in the Bengali people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism, and they primarily speak Bengali.
