They are a Rajput-descended community of Madhya Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Bihar tracing origin to Bundelkhand. Their name may derive from a term for sword-bearer. They are an indigenous people in the Hindi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Hinduism, and they primarily speak Bundeli.
