They are an Anishinaabe people known by the French-derived name Ojibwa and English name Chippewa, whose oral tradition traces their origin to the St. Lawrence River before a centuries-long westward migration into present-day Ontario.
They are an indigenous people in the North American Indigenous people cluster of the North American Peoples. Their primary religion is Protestantism, and they primarily speak Eastern Ojibwa.
