The Atikamek of Canada
The Atikamek of Canada, numbering about 6,500 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are an Algonquian people of Quebec's upper Saint-Maurice River valley known as Nitaskinan, described by French colonists since the early 1600s, whose fur-trade economy and population were devastated by a 1670s smallpox epidemic and later by industrial logging.
They are an indigenous people in the North American Indigenous people cluster of the North American Peoples. Their primary religion is Roman Catholicism, and they primarily speak Atikamekw.
