They are a people whose ancestry traces back to French-speaking settlers of Acadia, a 17th‑ and 18th‑century French colony located in what is now Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and parts of Maine.
They are an indigenous people in the French people cluster of the Eurasian Peoples. Their primary religion is Roman Catholicism, and they primarily speak English.
