The Asheninca Perene of Peru
The Asheninca Perene of Peru, numbering about 5,500 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are an Amazonian people of Peru's Selva Central whose leader Juan Santos Atahualpa expelled Spanish forces in the 1740s, restoring a century of regional autonomy that ended when the 19th-century rubber boom killed or enslaved most of their population.
They are an indigenous people in the Amazon people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion, and they primarily speak Ashéninka Perené.
