The Arabized Birgid of Sudan
The Arabized Birgid of Sudan, numbering about 246,000 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are a Darfur people descended from Nubian-speaking Birgid whose ancestral language, once spoken north of Nyala, went extinct by 1970 as this branch underwent full Arabization, distinguishing them from Birgid communities that retained a Nubian identity.
They are an indigenous people in the Kanuri-Saharan people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples. Their primary religion is Sunni Islam, and they primarily speak Sudanese Arabic.
