The Baiti of India
The Baiti of India, numbering about 27,500 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are a Bengali-speaking Scheduled Caste community of West Bengal, concentrated in the 24 Parganas district, whose name Chuiya or Chunari derives from their traditional occupation of lime (chun) processing. Today many roll beedis and weave mats and baskets.
They are an indigenous people in the Hindi people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Hinduism, and they primarily speak Bengali.
