The Mavilan of India

The Mavilan of India, numbering about 48,500 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a Scheduled Caste of Kasaragod and Kannur districts, Kerala, their name possibly meaning great bowmen. The Mavilan were traditionally herb-collectors and mahouts (elephant handlers). Settled cultivation and government service supplement these roles.

They are an indigenous people in the South Asian Tribal people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism, and they primarily speak Tulu.
