The Jhora of India

The Jhora of India, numbering about 59,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a community of Odisha and Bihar, also called Sonjhar, whose name derives from jhora, meaning straining, for their traditional practice of panning gold dust from riverbeds. Fishing was their other traditional occupation.

They are an indigenous people in the Odia people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism, and they primarily speak Odia.
