The Bantar of India
The Bantar of India, numbering about 152,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a Scheduled Caste community of northern Bihar whose name derives from ban, meaning bamboo, traditionally engaged in bamboo work, thatching and fishing. They are Maithili-speaking Hindus influenced by the Kabirpanth tradition.
They are an indigenous people in the Bihari people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Hinduism, and they primarily speak Maithili.
