The Machhi of India
The Machhi of India, numbering about 193,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a fishing community of Daman, Diu, and Maharashtra whose name derives from machhi (fish). Fishing and seamanship remain their main occupations, supplemented by toddy-tapping and government service.
They are an indigenous people in the Gujarati people cluster of the South Asian Peoples. Their primary religion is Hinduism, and they primarily speak Marathi.
