They are a people who call themselves Re Nuye Eyya, descended from nomadic Chichimeca hunter-gatherers who lived north of the Aztec Empire, dominating Queretaro's Sierra Madre Oriental while resisting Junipero Serra's mid-18th-century missionary efforts.

They are an indigenous people in the Central American Indigenous people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Catholicism, and they primarily speak Central Pame.
