The Penghulu of Indonesia

The Penghulu of Indonesia, numbering about 28,500 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a Jambi Malay community descended from migrants from West Sumatra whose identity reflects a blend of Minangkabau and Jambi traditions, long settlement along the Batang Asai and surrounding river valleys, and enduring clan-based social organization.

They are an indigenous people in the Melayu of Sumatra people cluster of the Malay Peoples. Their primary religion is Sunni Islam, and they primarily speak Minangkabau.
