The Northern Awu of China

The Northern Awu of China, numbering about 6,000 people, are Unengaged and Unreached. They are an indigenous Yi subgroup of Yongsheng County in northern Yunnan, distinct from the Southeastern Awu and shaped by a history of isolation and possible subjugation under the Xiaoliangshan Nosu.

They are an indigenous people in the Other Tibeto-Burmese people cluster of the Tibetan Peoples. Their primary religion is Chinese Folk Religion, and they primarily speak Sichuan Yi.
