The Waorani of Ecuador
The Waorani of Ecuador, numbering about 2,100 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are an Amazonian people who lived uncontacted until American missionaries forced contact in 1958, later targeted by Texaco's push onto their oil-rich lands, before a court victory upheld their right to informed consent over oil extraction on their territory.
They are an indigenous people in the South American Indigenous people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples. Their primary religion is Folk Catholicism, and they primarily speak Waorani.
