The Maquiritari of Venezuela
The Maquiritari of Venezuela, numbering about 6,100 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are a Cariban rainforest people of Venezuela's Caura and Orinoco river regions who defeated a Spanish military incursion in 1775 and preserved autonomy until 1960s development programs fragmented their traditional egalitarian village leadership.
They are an indigenous people in the Amazon people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion, and they primarily speak Maquiritari.
