The Akawaio of Guyana
The Akawaio of Guyana, numbering about 4,800 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are a Cariban people of Guyana's upper Mazaruni and Essequibo river basins in the Pakaraima Mountains, first recorded by name in 1596, whose ancestral presence at Quartz Island dates to around 80 BCE, recently winning a landmark land-tenure case.
They are an indigenous people in the South American Indigenous people cluster of the Latin American and Caribbean Peoples. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion, and they primarily speak Akawaio.
