They are a Lunda-derived people of northwestern Zambia who migrated from the Northern Lunda Empire in present-day Democratic Republic of the Congo and established communities in the Mwinilunga region while maintaining a distinct Ndembu identity.

They are an indigenous people in the Bantu, Central-South people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples. Their primary religion is Ethnoreligion, and they primarily speak Lunda.
