The Chopi of Mozambique

The Chopi of Mozambique, numbering about 762,000 people, are Engaged yet Unreached. They are a Bantu people of southern Mozambique's Inhambane province renowned for timbila xylophone orchestras recognized by UNESCO as a masterpiece of oral heritage, who first encountered Portuguese traders in the 1400s and endured Nguni invasions in the 1820s.

They are an indigenous people in the Bantu, Central-Southeast people cluster of the Sub-Saharan African Peoples. Their primary religion is Animism, and they primarily speak Chopi.
