The Bijogo of Guinea-Bissau, numbering about 42,500 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are a matrilineal island people of Guinea-Bissau's Bijagos archipelago, recorded by Europeans as early as 1456 and uncolonized until 1936 after defeating a 1535 Portuguese conquest, known for large ocean canoes and women who choose their own husbands.
