The Araki of Vanuatu

The Araki of Vanuatu, numbering about 275 people, are No Longer Unreached. They are a small-island community south of Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu whose ancestral Araki language has nearly vanished, from over 100 speakers in the late 1800s to a handful today, as intermarriage and schooling drove a shift toward the Tangoa language.

They are an indigenous people in the Vanuatu people cluster of the Pacific Islander Peoples. Their primary religion is Protestantism, and they primarily speak Tangoa.
